HILTON NURSING LEADS KENT CLINICAL GROUP

Hilton Nursing Leads Kent Clinical Best Practice Group as it leads on best practice in social care with a Clinical Supervision Group for Social Care Nurses working in social care settings across Kent.

The brainchild of Alison Worsfold, Head of Health, Quality and Clinical Governance, Registered Manager and Safeguarding Lead at Hilton Nursing Partners, the group is specifically designed to support nurses who work in the community, nursing homes and residential care homes in Kent. Working within a social care specialism can mean nurses are often work in smaller teams or in isolation and Alison felt that implementing this additional level of support could benefit many nurses working within the social care setting.

Using action learning sets, the clinical supervision group purpose is to provide a safe and confidential environment to support, assure and develop the knowledge skills and values of an individual and give peer support. This not only aids continuous professional development but also focuses on learning from one another through solving real-life problems, talking through practical and theoretical experiences, followed up with reflection on the discussion.

Alison Worsfold, of Hilton Nursing Partners says: “Last year Andrea Sutcliffe the chief executive of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) raised concerns about nurses working in adult social care being wrongly seen as somehow less skilled than those working in the health sector. It takes great skill and knowledge to be a qualified nurse and applying that knowledge outside of the NHS within social care is no different. I feel passionately that nurses working within social care setting provide a pivotal role in ensure people receive high quality care.’

Alison has received full support by both Kent County Council and the STP ensure the group is promoted and any learning themes are shared. The Clinical Supervision Group additionally supports the NMC Employer Guidance recommendations for supporting nursing staff and is a legitimate place for nurses working in Kent to gain support in their professional practice.”

The group meets four times a year at Hilton Nursing Partners in Ashford, Kent. The next meeting is scheduled for 19th May 2-4pm and anyone interested in joining should email Alison directly at alisonworsfold@hiltonnursingpartners.org.uk
